NEW DELHI: With its short-term career-oriented courses receiving a good response in 2005, Gargi College is starting another 10 add-on certificate programmes from this year onwards.
Open to Gargi students only, these courses will familiarise students with diverse career options to make their degrees more market worthy.
Titled 'Expanding Horizons', these courses will be available in several subjects like environment, biotechnology and bioinformatics, theatre workshop, appreciation of Indian art et al.

The programmes can be pursued alongwith regular undergraduate courses, and are likely to be spread over a duration of eight to ten lectures.
Emphasising upon the ever-increasing need for professional courses, Dr Meera Ramachandran, principal, Gargi College, said: "Nowadays, students want a job straight after graduation. The focus has now shifted on career value of education.
Everybody is looking for a bachelor's degree with extra benefits." She added that these courses would make students aware of career opportunities beyond the regular options like MBA, civil services and CA.

Apart from the college faculty, several eminent people from the various fields would be arrange for these programmes. Interviews for these courses would start by August 15.
Last year, Gargi College had started four add-on courses ��� journalism, advertising, business applications and banking, all of which became very popular with students.
"These courses gave us an insight into several industries. Thanks to the comprehensive training programme, I'm confident of my career option now," said Hita Gulati, a final-year student of Gargi, who took the advertising course.
